In the early 1993/94 period, participants in the Club's Ball Program, through sale of chocolates, generated revenue in excess of $40,000. A good portion of these funds were used to install outdoor basketball courts at 8 local schools: Crestview, Franklin, St. Patricks, St. Daniels, Sheppard, Smithson, Mackenzie King and Canadian Martyrs. Optimist Peter Hoffman (Compro Landscaping) looked after most of the installation work to keep the costs affordable.
As shown in the photo on the left Of the court at Crestview, it didn't take long for the kids to take to the courts --- and all are still being well used 30 years later!
In 2023 work on an outdoor court at Westchester Park got underway with a grand-opening gala in June 2024. The Westchester facility, shown in photos below, was a project undertaken in collaboration with the Stanley Park Comunity Association and the City of Kitchener.
