Welcome to The Optimist Club of Stanley Park's new website. There's a lot of history here ... and lots more to be made. Since beinh chartered on November 30, 1984 as part of Optimist International, we've been officially operating as a "not-for-profit" organization under the Optimist Creed as "Friends of Youth".. Our prime objective is to work with youth for the betterment of all. You're welcome to join us and are nvited to do so!

Programs/Events that the Club has operated/sponsored over the years include:

• The Child Witness Centre
• the Stanley Park Ball Program
• the Grand River Bass Derby
• fishing events for the physically challenged
• the School Fishing Program
• an annual bike safety rodeo
• Saturday night youth dances
• Grand River Collegiate's Christmas Tea for Seniors
• purchased sleds for SideWinders Sledge Hockey in 1991 & 1994 and hosted an international sledgehockey tournament in 1999
• various scholasrships, awards, and essay/oratorical competitions for local students
• Stanley Park (Kitchener) Scouts Troup #1
• numerous minor sports teams including baseball, softball, bowling, hockey &, basketball
• local charities (inc: Food for Kids, Nutrition for Learning) & community fundraisers, and various school groups & projects.

Major financial commitments have included:

• on-going support for The Stanley Park Optimist Natural Area on the Walter Bean Trail
• in 2022, a new outdoor basketball court at Westchester Park in partnership with the City and the Stanley Park Community Association
• the Student Career Counselling Centre at Grand River Collegiate
• providing baseball diamonds at the former Notre Dame School and Smithson School
• providing backstop screens at Franklin & Midland Parks (for junior T-Ball play)
• providing outdoor basketball courts at Smithson, Crestview & Canadian Martyrs schools
• providing financial support for playground structures at Smithson and Franklin schools
